The Rothschild family has always been involved with horses.
Edouard´s father Guy completed his military service at Saumur alongside the Cadre Noir.
So it's no surprise that his son Edouard started riding as early as age five, at the Deauville pony club. At first the teenager was initially attracted by polo. "But my parents were against it," says Edouard.
In 1973 he started showjumping with Marcel Rozier. In his last year as a junior rider - the year when Eric Navet became Junior Champion - he competed in the final of the French junior championship.
Edouard remembers precisely: "In the first round I was clear until the last fence but as a result of stress I lost the focus and jumped the wrong last fence - and was disqualified!"
The experience was "very hard", and also drastic, because after that, Edouard left his riding boots untouched in a corner - for more than twenty years.
Between the age of 18 und 40 he became very involved with his professional business career, he didn´t even spend one minute in the saddle. He tried all sorts of sports, but it was all too boring for him. "The only thing I really wanted was to ride!" He came back slowly to his original passion. He began to ride once a week, then in 1997 he built stables in Ferrières, the family country house. "I actually didn't want to ride at shows," he says, but training with Pierre Durand, his good old friend and Olympic winner in 1988 was irresistible, and he started showing again..
In 2002 Edouard started to work closely with the talented born brasilian rider Luciana Diniz, who since then became a permanent advisor, rider and good friend. She has been showing successfully for him Meautry's Locarno, Suzie Quattro that they own together and more recently the highly successful stallion Winningmood.
Then in 2003, Edouard decided to take a sabbatical from his banking businesses and ride for a year. "It became a permanent sabbatical," he reports. With Andreas Knippling, the then-husband of Luciana Diniz, he completed his first international shows.
"My goals and my objectives are to ride the international shows, to have consistent rounds and results, and to enjoy the partnership with my horses", says Edouard.
